Adare Manor
The Irish Tourist Association photos provide important visual records of manor houses in Limerick. Adare Manor, built by the Dunraven family, is an example of one of these.
Adare Manor
Building on Adare Manor begun in 1832 to replace the old manor house. At the time this Irish Tourist Association photo was taken in the 1940s, Adare Manor was the still the ancestral home of the Earls of Dunraven. It continued as such until it was sold by the Dunraven family in the early 1980s. It is now a luxury hotel resort.

The building is a nineteenth-century manor house located along the River Maigue, which is one of the best trout rivers in Ireland. Its grounds contain many interesting ruins that date back over 800 years.
Adare Manor was sold by the Dunraven family in 1982. In 1988, the manor opened as a luxury hotel resort, which it remains to the present day.
The Black Abbey, Adare, 1940s
The Black Abbey in Adare was founded in the early 1300s. It was originally known as the Adare Augustinian Friary.

Moor Abbey, County Limerick
The ruins of Moor Abbey are located just outside Galbally, Co. Limerick. The original church on this site was founded in 1204, but it was rebuilt in 1473 after a fire.

The ruins of Moor Abbey are located on the outskirts of Galbally, Co. Limerick. The original church at Moor Abbey was founded in 1204.
Moor Abbey was constructed under the patronage of the O'Brien's as a Franciscan friary.
It was burned several times during the process of construction by the armies of Desmond and Ormond. In 1472, it was burned to the ground and was rebuilt in 1473.
