Although the port is no longer a bustling point of trade, there is a maritime spirit that still runs deep in Waterford City.

It was shown to be very much alive in 2005, when Waterford became the first city in Ireland to host the start of the world famous Tall Ships Race.

With over 80 Tall Ships berthed at the quayside, the Waterford Quay was revived as an international maritime centre. Some of the most beautiful ships in the world sat proudly in the famous old harbour.
