Environmental Research
The environment is a complex area with many interlinkages. As old issues are dealt with, new ones emerge. Sound policy-making must therefore be underpinned by good science, so the role of environmental research is vital if we are to protect this fragile world into the future. The environmental research of today will become the environmental protection of tomorrow.
Environmental research in Ireland is coordinated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). During the last two decades, a cohort of researchers in this field has provided key science to inform policy and decision-makers in government. More details of the role and activities of the EPA can be found at www.epa.ie.
