Máire Ní Eidhin
|
Background
'Máire Ní Eidhin' was composed by Antoine Ó Raifteiri, the blind poet and fiddler that was born in the late 18th century. He was patronised by the Taffe family, but following a disagreement he became a travelling bard. He is often remembered as the last of the wandering bards. Other airs he composed included Cill Aodáin and Anach Chuain.
Although Ó Raifteiri's poems were not written down during his lifetime, they were collected by Douglas Hyde and Lady Gregory from his students and later translated and printed*.
