Famine Museum and Gráinne Uaile Centre
Located in Louisburgh, the Famine Museum keeps alive folk memories of the Great Famine which ravaged rural Ireland in the 19th century and Mayo in particular and accompanies it with coverage of the disaster in national and local media. Due to emigration Louisburgh like many Irish towns has international links. There is also a famine walk along the Doo Lough Valley. The Gráinne Uaile Centre focuses on the life and times of the legendary Pirate Queen, Granuaile (Grace O'Malley or Gráinne Uaile).
