The Michael Davitt Museum is housed in the magnificently restored pre-penal church in Straide, County Mayo. Michael Davitt was christened in this church in 1846 and is buried in the grounds of the 13th Century Abbey, beside the Museum.  The museum contains an extensive collection of documents, photos, Land Acts, letters, postcards, posters and other items connected with Davitt's life. There is also an excellent audio-visual which enhances the exhibition and a knowledgeable and friendly staff on hand to give a guided tour, if desired.
