Lįr na Pairce
Since the Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in 1884 in Hayes Hotel, Thurles, it was has been the largest and most popular sporting organisation in Ireland and is a major part of Irish life. The amateur GAA promotes the ancient games of hurling, gaelic football and handball. The annual senior hurling and football championship rivalries between county teams from the four provinces of the island is legendary. Lar na Pairce hosts exhibits that illustrate the rich history of the GAA not only in Tipperary and across the island of Ireland. Items on display included famous trophies and medals, photos of notable contests, team jerseys and the hurley sticks of star players. Lar na Pairce also sells a wide range of Tipperary GAA merchandise including sports equipment, clothing, books and gifts.
