Duncannon Fort Maritime Museum
Duncannon Fort is a star shaped fort built to protect Waterford Harbour and to ward off a Spanish invasion of Ireland in the 16th century. There is a 30 foot dry moat and one of the oldest lighthouses in the country. The ramparts have spectacular views of the sea and shore. During the 1798 rebellion captive rebels were detained in the port. The museum tells the story of the fort, the history of wexford and the dangerous coastline which wrecked many ships.
