Kennedy Homestead Cultural Museum And Visitor Centre

In 1848 Patrick Kennedy left New Ross for the United States like countless others who fled Ireland during the Great Famine. His grandson Joseph P. Kennedy became a wealthy businessman and ambassador to Great Britain. In the summer of 1963 his great-grandson, the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, visited Ireland and made an emotional return to the ancestral family homestead.

The museum in Dunganstown contains Kennedy memorabilia, photographs and other exhibits telling the story of the rise of the immigrant Kennedy family from humble beginnings in County Wexford and Boston to become the most famous American political dynasty. The story is illustrative of the close and enduring bonds between the United States and the Republic of Ireland.
