A Customer Complains

Leybourn replied and sought to justify himself by setting out the facts of the case. Cramer had hired a coach from him in order to take lady passengers to Dublin and two gentlemen, Mr. Lightbourn and Mr. Bailey to make the return journey to Carlow. Cramer cancelled this arrangement at short notice. Instead he hired a coach from Dublin for the purpose. As a result Leybourn was inconvenienced, as his driver and coach were kept idle for six days.

Leybourn stated that his service has been "diligent and useful" and that furthermore Cramer owed him money. He also stated that he "now has a coach and five post-chaise and a capriole to accommodate the public."

Cramer responded that he had offered to settle the small debt, but that Leybourn had advised him that it was but a minor matter. Besides he stated that he was above entering a "paper war" with Leybourn.

Finally, on May 8th 1770, Leybourn wrote to Mr. Finn editor of Finn's Leinster Journal saying that he no longer wished to further this dispute, in order to avoid expense to both parties.
