Tenders for Road Repairs
Individual contractors had to tender for repair work on a section of road. Sections of road were advertised in the local press by the County Surveyor. In 1852 Peter Burtchael, the County Surveyor published the following notice for the Barony of Rathvilly.
Notice To Road Contractors
The County Surveyor will receive, on the dates below mentioned Tenders for supplying material and executing repairs to the extent the money presented will admit of upon the following Roads below for the Barony of Rathvilly:-
Road Between
Ballyhacket Cross Roads and Rathmore Cross Roads
Ballyhacket Cross Roads and The Bounds of Co. Kildare at Ballykilane.
Michael Brennan's in Straboe and Mr. Putland's in Rathmore
Bough School House and Maplestown Cross Roads
Tullow Fever Hospital and Walsh's Gate in Cannon's Quarter
The Yellow Ford and The County Bounds at Ricketstown
Mary Farrell's House in Scotland and Patt Byrne's House in Hacketstown
Clonmore Street and The County Bounds at Goldbrook
Mill Lane in Tullow and Rathglass Bridge
Clonmore Cross Roads and Minvaud Cross Roads
Judy Lees Cross Roads and Ballybit Cross Roads
The Bounds of Killerig and Ardeen Bridge
Ardristan Gate and The Bounds of Barony near Sandbrook
Specifications and Forms of Contract to be seen with the County Surveyor from Ten until Four o'clock, at the following places, viz:- Bridge Hotel, Tullow, on Saturday, 10th of January, 1852, for the Baronies of Rathvilly, Forth, and Upper St. Mullins; Ward's Hotel, Bagenalstown, on Monday, 12th January, for the Baronies of Idrone East and Lower St. Mullins; County Surveyor's Office, Carlow on Thursday, January 15th, for the Baronies of Idrone West and Carlow.
Dated this 2nd day of January, 1852.
