Cahirsiveen Church
Postcard message with an interesting snippet of contemporary history. The sender observes that both the public library and the workhouse were occupied by the military at the time the postcard was sent. She is clearly not enamoured with Cahirsiveen even though she is obviously a frequent visitor. She says "I expect it is the same dirty old place all the time".

The messages contained in postcards are necessarily brief and generally lighthearted as the sender is normally on holidays and switched off from the day to day routines of home and work.
The passage of time has lent a certain poignancy to many of these messsages. Mostly the sender confines himself to the brevity that the form imposes and the message is cheerful and upbeat. On occasion the visitor makes an observation about the history of the locality. In one message reproduced here the sender is a witness to history in the making when the public library and the local workhouse were occupied by the military in Cahirsiveen.

Text of postcard:
Dear Aunt Julia,
With best wishes for a happy New Year from your fond niece,
Kathlyn
P.S.
I am enclosing a few views of Cahirsiveen and a photo of myself it is not very good. I expect it is the same dirty old place all the time, they are not many changes. I am sending you a postcard of the library which is now occupied by the Military. They are also stationed at the Workhouse (Bahas)
A jaundiced view of Cahirsiveen, no doubt, but an important fragment of local history.
