National Botanic Gardens

The National Botanic Gardens was first opened in 1795 by the Royal Dublin Society. They contained 20,000 living plant specimens and millions of dried plants specimens. The National Botanic Gardens participates in national and international initiatives for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. The National Botanic Gardens display a range of outdoor "habitats" such as a rockery, herbaceous border, rose garden, bog garden and arboretum. The National Botanic Gardens include some glasshouses of architectural importance, such as the Palm House and the Curvilinear Range designed by Richard Turner. The National Botanic Gardens are managed under National Historic Properties of the Office of Public Works.
