Some Pedigree Cats
The British Shorthair
The British Shorthair is a very old breed of cat that traces its ancestry back to the domestic cat of ancient Rome.
Description
This very striking cat has piercing yellow eyes, typically set in a thick coat of grey hair. Originally the hair colour was blue but now many different colours are recognised by the GCCFI. It also has a curved mouth giving it a distinctive ‘smile’. It is admired for its physical strength and aptitude for hunting, but also for loyalty to its family. The British Shorthair however does not have the same reputation as some cats for its acrobatic ability and deftness of movement, preferring instead to have feet firmly on the ground.
Care
Overall, British Shorthairs are healthy cats that can be expected to live from 14-20 years. The most common health problem is gingivitis, or inflammation of the gums, which may lead to heart problems in severe cases. Middle-aged British Shorthairs can experience weight problems, so a controlled diet may be necessary.
