Description & function
The Irish Soft Coasted Wheaten Terrier is aptly named for its silky coat of warm wheaten hair. Like other Irish terrier breeds, it was traditionally the companion of the common man and was widely bred as a farm dog. It was unusual for members of the nobility to own a terrier, keeping instead Irish Wolfhounds and other hunting dogs. This terrier has many different roles such as herding livestock, hunting vermin from the farm, and guarding against intruders. Today the Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is usually kept as a companion dog.
