Other Types of Waste
Of the 2.9 million tonnes of municipal waste generated in Ireland in 2018, 38% was recycled, 43% was used in energy recovery and 14% was landfilled (EPA, 2020).
Food waste is an important issue highlighted by the UN Sustainable Development Goals with an aim to halve global food waste by 2030. Irish households produce an estimated 509,900 tonnes of food waste per year which costs an average of €700 per household per year.
