Reduce Water Pollution
- Reduce the amount of pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilisers you use. Remember that if you use these poisonous sprays on your driveway, lawn or in your flowerbeds, traces of them will drain into rivers and ditches when it rains.
- Keep any chemical substances, including household cleaning products, in a sealed container to avoid contaminating the water supply.
- Clean up after your pets. Their waste contains harmful bacteria that will pollute water if washed away during a rain shower.

Water Pollution
Courtesy of the EPA- Make sure that you dispose of your rubbish responsibly. Never dump anything in a river or down a drain. Any materials, including paper, plastics or tin cans contain chemicals that can pollute water supplies.
- If you have a septic tank at home, make sure to maintain it properly by having it inspected and cleaned regularly. If overloaded, raw sewage could seep into the earth and contaminate groundwater.
- Check your car for leaks and get them repaired.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) provides more extensive information on legislation pertaining to water quality.
