9.3 How to say it on posters
Like all other items for print or display, posters should follow the guidelines for clear print (see Section 9.1).
They should also contrast in colour with the wall or background on which they are displayed.
In order to decide on the optimum print size for a poster, you need to figure out whether people will be reading it close up or from further away.
The further away they will be, the bigger the print will need to be. ‘As large as possible’ is the best rule of thumb.
The Cavan Signage Checklist (see Section 12) offers suggestions of optimum print sizes for various situations. Placing posters or other wall displays in the range of 1400mm-1700mm above the floor will guarantee that the largest number of people will notice and be able to read them. Good lighting will help, too.
