Photographic Printing

Photographic printing is the final stage of the photography process where the photograph is printed on paper. This was originally done in a dark room using an enlarger to print the photograph from a negative/slide onto photo-sensitive paper.

 

Photogram

A photogram is a photograph created in the photographic dark room without the use of a camera. Objects are placed on the photo-sensitive paper and then exposed using the enlarger. The light cannot pass through the objects, therefore these areas remain white and the rest of the paper turns black. This technique was used by a number of 20^th century artists in order to create surreal images, in particular the photographs of Man Ray.
