O'Carolan's Welcome
Background
Turlough O'Carolan was born in Co Meath in 1670 and is regarded as one of the finest composers and harpists that Ireland has ever produced. 'O'Carolan's Welcome' is also known by a number of different titles, including 'Carolan's Welcome', 'Carolan's Air', and 'Carden's Welcome'.
Many of O'Carolan's compositions are still performed by Irish musicians, such as Planxty, The Chieftains and The Dubliners. Derek Bell, who was a musician with The Chieftains, was the first to record two albums of O'Carolan's music.
The arrangement of O'Carolan's Welcome on Ask about Ireland is by Sylvia Woods, Montrose, C.A., U.S.A.
