Courtesy of Longford County LibraryDrumming House was located about a mile and a half south of the village of Ardagh. It was built by Rev. Dr. John Kerr who was appointed Dean of Ardagh in 1661 and died in 1701.
In the early eighteenth century the house passed into the hands of the Newcomen family and Charles Newcomen who died in 1732 appears to have been the first of the family to reside in Drumming.
The Newcomens were absentee landlords and their estate was run in their absence by land agents. In 1825, Drumming House was passed to Theresa, illegitimate daughter of Thomas, the first and only Viscount Newcomen. Theresa was the last family member to own Drumming.
By 1862, the Fetherston family of Ardagh House had become the new owners of the Drumming Estate. By the end of the nineteenth century, Drumming House was in a state of ruin. Nothing remains of the house today.
