Public Houses
Dooley's Hotel is situated in Emmet Square and was built c.1747. It has been a key feature in the social life of the town down through the centuriesand it was here in the early 19th century that the Galway Hunt set fire to the hotel during a night of revelry. They were thereafter known as the Galway "Blazers".
Also seen here are two other fine examples of 19th century Public House frontages, ie.
Foster's and Haverty's .

The Army Barracks at Crinkle
Situated one mile to the south of the town of Birr, Crinkle Military Barracks was built between 1807 and 1812 by Bernard Mullins. It was the home of the 3rd Leinster Brigade. The barracks provided accomodation for 2,000 infantrymen and it had its own church, hospital and restaurant.
