The Mall
The Mall is a beautifully landscaped park on the banks of the river Camlin. It is a relaxing space for leisurely walks or sporting activities. It has a multi-purpose leisure complex with an indoor swimming pool and gymnasium.
Royal Canal
The Royal Canal enters the county from Westmeath, by an aquaduct over the Inny, through locks at Ballymahon, Kenagh, Killashee until it joins the Shannon at Richmond Harbour, Clondra.. The Royal Canal reopened in October 2010 after many years of being derelict and overgrown. Navigation is now possible from Spencer Dock in Dublin through thirty nine locks to the River Shannon. It once provided an important commercial and passenger transport system to Dublin. The canal is now used for leisurely trips on the barges while walkers enjoy the walks along the banks of the canal.
Libraries
There are six branch libraries in the county- Longford town, Ballymahon, Drumlish, Edgeworthstown, Granard and Lanesboro. The county library provides a wide range of services including a comprehensive stock of books, CD’s, computer facilities and an extensive local history and heritage archive.
Schools
Longford has five primary schools including a Gaelscoil, and three secondary schools, St. Mel’s College for boys, Scoil Mhuire for girls, and Templemichael College, formerly the Vocational school. An extensive adult education centre also exists in Longford.

Sporting Facilities
The town has a wide range of sports clubs and facilities, including Gaelic Athletic Association, rugby and tennis clubs, a League of Ireland soccer club, an 18 -hole golf course, basketball and the mall sports complex.
Entertainment
Longford boasts a fine 200 seat Backstage Theatre, a multiplex cinema and many clubs.
