Kerry covers about 25,000 hectares and includes the interlinked Lakes of Killarney: Lough Leane, ( Loch Léin) Muckross ( Mhucrois) Lake , and the Upper Lake . The park also takes in the Mangerton (An Mhangarta), Torc (Sliabh Torc), Shehy (Cnoic na Síofra) and Purple Mountains (Sliabh Corcra).

It has been designated a UNESCO sanctuary since 1981. There is extensive oak and yew woodland in Killarney National Park with a diverse number of native plants and animal species, including red deer.
