Cinema Today

The coming of television to Ireland in the early 1960s heralded the beginning of the end of the cinemas in Waterford. Today cinema still has an important part to play in the social life of WaterfordCity.

Waterford City has two cinemas. The older Cineplex on Patrick Street (formerly The Regina) was the city's only cinema for many years. This had five screens which was a departure from the conventional old type cinema that contained one screen.

In 2007 the 8-screen Storm Cinema opened in the Railway Square complex.
