Courtesy of Waterford City Library ServicesThe opening date of the Turkish Baths in Waterford is thought to be about 1860. The Waterford Turkish Baths Company advertised 1500 shares in the company at £1.00 per share.
The advertisement states 'In addition to the valuable curative and sanitary success which has attended the introduction of those Baths in places where already established, remarkable pecuniary success has also resulted- the public having freely availed themselves of their benefit and luxury, and the working classes having also largely resorted to them. The value and importance of the Turkish Bath, from a sanitary point of view, is now generally admitted, and establishments having been erected in Dublin, Bray, Killarney and Limerick, as well as at Blarney and Cork, it seems desirable to obtain the benefits of this valuable remedy and luxury for Waterford by erecting a Bath in some convenient situation in the City suburbs. 'The baths were located on Hardy's Road close to The People's Park.
