What To Do
Places have a history. Wherever you live it is usually possible to find out about life in that place in the past. We can trace when people first began to live in a place and then we can find out what changes came about at different times.
To find out about places we need to study evidence such as old buildings, written accounts, old maps and pictures as well as studying evidence in the landscape. Older people can also help us to find out about what it was like to live in a place at a different time to nowadays.
This unit looks at how Cork city began and grew. In it you will find out about the Vikings and Normans in Cork as well as emigration from the city and surrounding countryside during and after the Great Famine.
