The Greenhouse Effect
What are Greenhouse Gases and how do they affect our climate?
Understanding climate and the discovery of the roles of GHGs is a real scientific detective story that has many links to Ireland and Irish science. A good place to start this story is the mid 19th Century, when a key question puzzling scientists was why is the Earth so warm? All the advanced science of the time indicated that the Earth should be on average around 30 degrees Celsius colder than it was, more like the temperature of the moon, our nearest neighbour in space.
