Recreation
Lough Lene is one of the Midland Trout lakes. As such, angling is both a local and a tourist activity. Boats can be hired to allow access to the full lake but generally rolling at the shallower eastern side of the lake is recommended for a productive days fishing.
The lake sees fly hatches of Duck fly in April, Lake Olives in May and Green Peters and Murroughs in August.
Mullingar Sub Aqua club have often used the lake as a training ground given the clarity and depth of the lake. This has resulted in some unique archaeological finds such as the Monks Boat.
