Cork City Gaol And Radio Museum

The Cork City Gaol, near Patrick's Street, is a striking fortress style building which is now a popular tourist attraction. Prisoners were confined in the institution during the 19th century and visitors who tour the museum are shown daily life behind bars during the period with life size figures and other artefacts on display.

In the former Governor's house is a radio museum which retains the 6CK Radio Broadcasting Studio. An audio-visual display explains the relationship between Ireland and the inventer Marconi who pioneered radio broadcasting. There are collections of artefacts including an RTE collection showing the development of radio broadcasting over the years.
