Common Name: Hiba Arborvitae
Description: The hiba can reach up to 15m in height and is often multi-stemmed and spreading when old. The scale-like, flattened deep green foliage is distinctive. The cones are 1-1.6cm in diameter, 20mm long . The seeds have two wings.
Origin: The Hiba occurs in mountainous areas of Japan. This is one of the 'Five Sacred Trees of Kiso' often used for Shinto Temple construction.
Introduced in 1864.
