Common Name: Oriental Spruce, Caucasian Spruce
Description: A large densely branched tree, conical when young, the branches become more pendulous with age. The leaves are dark green and densely matched on the upper surface. The cones are up to 9cm long and purple at maturity.
Origin: The Oriental Spruce found in mountainous areas of Northern Turkey and the Caucasus. Its conical shape and dense branching made it popular from its introduction in about 1839.
It has proven hardy and very adaptable.The specimen in Woodstock is 23.1M in height and has a secondary leader. It was measured in 1999.
