Common Name: Douglas Fir, Yellow or Red Spruce
Description: This is one of the tallest conifers in the world and can grow up to 100m. The tree is conical while young; the crown flattens out with age. The cones can be up to 10cm long, the seeds are 5-6mm long with a single wing.
Origin: This species has a widespread distribution from Western Canada to Mexico, at altitude in the south of its range. It is the state tree of Oregon. It has been widely introduced to other temperate areas around the world and is an important timber tree.
Introduced in 1827 by David Douglas.
