Common Name: Gowen Cypress, California Cypress, Mendocino Cypress
Description: The Gowen Cypress usually only grows to 10m but can reach 50m under favourable conditions. The crown is variable from columnar to spreading. The cones are grayish brown when mature. The foliage is dark green and fragrant.
Origin: The Gowen Cypress occurs in coastal California often near the closely related Monterey Cypress. It has a high tolerance of extremely poor soils. It is vary rare in cultivation in the British Isles. Introduced in 1846.
