Common Name: Lantern Tree
Description: The Lantern Tree forms a large dense evergreen shrub. The flowers like log stemmed crimson lanterns hang thickly on the branches in May. The leaves are dark green and pointed.
Origin: The Lantern Tree occurs in Southern Chile. It likes a moist mild climate and is intolerant of excessive lime. It was introduced in 1848 by William Lobb.
The specimen in Woodstock is 5m in height.
