The Green Building, Temple Bar
The Green Building Temple Bar
This is a prime example of how environmentally sound buildings can not only contribute towards achieving our climate change goals, but can be hugely profitable, and be built in urban areas. It is a mixed-use building offering accommodation, office space and retail lettings.

Dublin
The Green Building in Temple Bar was built in 1994 and illustrates how environmentally friendly buildings can help us to achieve sustainable urban areas.
Renewable energy sources are fundamental to the Green Building. The central courtyard area was designed to provide natural ventilation and light for the building. The building also supports a sustainable energy system including photovoltaic solar arrays for electricity, solar panels for hot water and a geothermal heat pump. Heat is channelled from a borehole more than 160 yards deep, using a system that exploits the heat generated from the bedrock below the building.
Overall, the design of the Green Building and materials used resulted in a minimal impact on the environment.
In 1995, the Green Building won the RIAI regional award for Dublin.
