The first section (Monks and Vikings) provides students with information about the growth of a monastery and the arrival of Vikings to Cork. Students are asked questions on an image of a Viking ship, and will also learn about a Viking street.
Students will also complete a simple true or false quiz to ensure the children understand the basic concepts
The second section (the Normans) gives students details about who the Normans were and the building of walls around settlements by the Normans. Questions will be asked on a map of the Norman town of Cork. Students will read about why the walls fell into disrepair and about the prevalence of illness in this period. Other tasks will include the examination of pictorial evidence about the Black Death, and a fill in the blanks activity testing chidlren's learning
The third section (the Good and Bad Times, c. 1700-1850) will teach students about the increase in trade in Cork. A multiple choice quiz will ask students questions on the supplies on a ship in the 1700s. Students will also study picture of South Gate Bridge and Prison. This section will also include text about the physical development of the city. It will also describe poverty in Cork in this period, including during the Great Famine. The section will also include a multiple-choice quiz that will test the students' knowledge of this section.
The final section (Modern Cork since c. 1850) will go through the technological and economic development of the city. Students will find out what was sold in shops on Patrick Street through examining advertisements from the time. The section will also allow students to read about and study trams in Cork. The involvement of Cork in the War of Independence and the Civil War will also be covered in this section, including the burning of Cork by the Black and Tans.
The arrival of the cinema and other leisure activities undertaken in Cork in the early twentieth century is also featured in this section. The development of industry in Cork is also covered. Students will also look at and compare pictures of St. Patrick's Street, Cork in 1932 and 2004.
The section will finish with a Fill in the blanks activity to assess learning.
