Wildlife
The undisturbed and sheltered Galway Bay makes an excellent habitat for a large population of waterfowl, and is of high ornithological significance. The shoreline and intertidal areas provides ideal roosting and feeding ground for the Brent Goose, Golden Plover, and many other wintering birds. Terns, Cormorants, Red-breasted Merganser and Black-throated Divers are further species of national importance that inhabit Galway Bay .
The Bay also supports an important Common Seal colony as well as a considerable otter population.
