Massy’s Estate in Killakee was once the site of one of the great houses of Ireland last owned by the Massy family. Today there is nothing left of the house and the gardens are overgrown but surrounding woodland has been preserved and maintained by Coilte.
Among the many types of trees in the woods Oak, Monterey Pine, Sequoia, California Redwood, Lime and Monkey Puzzle can be found. Animals to be found in the woods include Sika Deer, Badger, Grouse, Red Squirrel, Fox and many birds
The Owendoher River and the Piperstown stream run through the grounds, and a small reservoir remains that supplied water to the old house.
There are many walks and trails around the woods and grounds which are very popular with locals and vistors
